G4TV X-Play previews MK: Shaolin Monks
G4's X-Play previewed Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. Episode #5077 covered PS2 version of Batman Begins, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, and Gundam Seed. They also previewed Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for the DS and Spider-Man 2 on PSP.

::From the X-Play Preview::
We recently played a short demo of Shaolin Monks. An early portion of the game is playable as both Liu Kang and Kung Lao. The character selection screen shows shadows for two other selectable characters, which appear to be unlockable. The outlines lead us to believe that they’re ninjas, with one of them likely to be Sub-Zero.

As far as the gameplay goes, Shaolin Monks is a 3D action game that combines beat-‘em-up style, an ambitious combat system, and light platforming elements. The game can be played single-player or cooperatively. While the platforming and level layout seem fairly standard, the combat system is pretty ambitious and full of potential.

GamingEvolution post previews Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks
GamingEvolution post previews Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. They got a couple of images from the game but not any new info about the game.

::From the GamingEvolution Preview::
Ever since Midway and Ed Boon brought the Mortal Kombat series to gamers around the world in 1992, they haven’t looked back. Though some series see their peak later in their life span, the Mortal Kombat series peaked with its second installment, Mortal Kombat II. The series is still able to garner a solid fanbase and turn a few heads, despite the stellar showing of the two spin-offs that they released; Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and Mortal Kombat Special Forces. But unlike those two titles, Midway; with the developing skills of Paradox, has lots of experience within the combat field (thanks to their work on the Backyard Wrestling series)., and thus Shaolin Monks looks to have a more positive outlook (compared to the ladder).

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks Dairy
MortalKombatOnline.com has post an online dairy of the Developers of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. This Diary insert is from Shaun Himmerick, the producer of MK: Shaolin Monks.

::From the MKO Diary::
Yes two years - October 03 - September 05, and Paradox was working on the prototype well before October 03. Yes, US and PAL both in September 2005 this year. This game was a secret. I'm not going to tell you who the other playable characters are, do you people want any surprises? There will be both an OPM demo and an OXM demo available in the next month or so. Xbox 360 is backwards compatible as will be the PS3, so everyone can play it. Yes, the voice of Liu Kang likes sandwiches, I love my PSP" and yes, MK2.

OK how about the Environments huh? The prototype for this game was built starting in the Soul Tombs so that was the first thing we tackled. For every level there was a fucking ton of concept art from Paradox that Steve, Tony, Ed and I would go over. We'd select lighting from one and color palettes from another and style of architecture from another and then look at some more concept art. Also every time we tackled a level we looked at the original MK2 background as concept art as well. If you watch closely, when you play a level there will always be at least one area of every level that will be the section of that level that is the MK2 background brought into 3D. Some are easy to tell, like the Soul Tombs or Goro's Lair. Others are more subtle like the Living Forest or the Wastelands. Yes I know Goro's Lair wasn't in MK2, it is an extra.
